Elton John / Candle In The Wind 1997

Released as a tribute single to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, John sang this in public, for the first and only time, at her funeral. It became the fastest-selling single ever, selling 658,000 copies on its 1st day alone. The track went on to become the best-selling single of all time in the UK.

Aqua / Barbie Girl

This song, featured on the album 'Aquarium', was a big hit across Europe and stayed at number-one for 3 weeks. The video and lyrics are about Barbie and her relationship with Ken. It’s made it onto several ‘100 greatest lists’ including one-hit wonders, most annoying songs, and guilty pleasures.

1997 Number 3 Single

Puff Daddy & Faith Evans / I'll Be Missing You

Released in memory of fellow artist Notorious B.I.G, this rap ballad topped the charts across the world. It samples the melody of ‘The Police’s ‘Every Breath You Take’ and also borrows from a gospel song called ‘I’ll Fly Away’. The track re-entered the charts in 2007; 10 years after it’s 1st release.

Various / Perfect Day

Written by Lou Reed in 1972, this song came back to attention after it was featured in the 1996 film ‘Trainspotting’. The single was a charity release for ‘Children In Need’ and involved many major artists and acts. It was the UK's number one single for three weeks and sold over a million records.

1997 Number 5 Single

Teletubbies / Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh!

Released on the ‘BBC Worldwide’ label, this single remained in the top 75 for 32 weeks, and sold over a million copies. The song is largely based around the theme song to the TV show, featuring Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po, and became a hit with both children and adults alike.
