Britney Spears / Baby One More Time

Spear’s 1st single from her debut album ‘...Baby One More Time’, this was a worldwide hit and is recognised as being one of the greatest pop songs of all time. The music video was also a major success (the cause of much controversy too) and involved her dancing around in a skimpy schoolgirl outfit.

1999 Number 2 Single

Eiffel 65 / Blue (Da Ba Dee)

This single reached number-one in 17 countries. The vocals were recorded using a synthesizer to get a robotic sound. No-one is quite sure what the lyrics in the chorus are; ranging from "I'm blue, if I were green I would die”, "I'm blue, I'm in need of a guy” to "I'm blue, I will bleed, I will die".

1999 Number 3 Single

Cliff Richard / The Millennium Prayer

This was a charity single, with all the proceeds going to ‘Children's Promise’. Richard's own record label refused to release it so it came out on an independent label. It features him singing the words of the Lord's Prayer to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne", and was his 14th number-one.

Lou Bega / Mambo no. 5 (A Little Bit Of...)

This single involved Bega’s taking various portions of a 1952 mambo song and forming them into an upbeat dance track. It was number-one for 2 weeks and featured on his debut album ‘A Little Bit of Mambo’. The ladies mentioned are Angela, Pamela, Sandra, Rita, Monica, Erica, Tina, Mary and Jessica.

ATB / 9PM (Till I Come)

This was the 1st track to be released from the album ‘Movin' Melodies’. Throughout there is a distinctive pitched guitar sound which went onto become ATB’s trademark. It has been remixed more times than any other song in the Trance genre (‘Sequential One 1999 Remix’ being the most popular).
